UES Inc., a Dayton-based Science and Technology firm and 2015 R&D100 Award Finalist, hosted a successful Inaugural User Forum for their flagship product, Robo-Met.3D®. Distinguished users from all over the US, representing national laboratories, academic research institutues, and industrial users, attended the event, helid at the firm’s Dayton headquarters on September 15th and 16th.
The forum was moderated by Robert Shafrick, a distinguished member of the National Academy of Engineering. Michael Uchic of the AFRL Materials and Manufacturing Directorate delivered the keynote address, outlining his vision for 3D materials analysis and Robo-Met.3D. Jeffrey Williams of GE Aviation, delivered the plenary address on the second day of the forum, describing Integrated Computational Materials Science and Engineering (ICME), and its role in developing materials and processes. The Air Force Research Laboratory, Naval Research Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratory, Colorado School of Mines, University of Michigan, GE Aviation, GE Power and Water, Mound Laser and Photonics Center, and ATI Speciality Materials were among the institutions represented. Users presented their experience and case reports with the system. UES team members presented advances in hardware and software aspects of the system, and sought direction for future advances. The day-and-ahalf event was punctuated with a dinner, where the inventors of the system, Jonathan Spowart and Herb Mullens, were felicitated.
Tom Kielbaso, UES Sales Engineer, said “We were honored to host this distinguished group, and better understand their perspectives. The Robbo-Met.3D system’s current third generation, and our future products, will be enhanced by their feedback”.
Nina Joshi, President and CEO, acknowledged the support UES received from the State of Ohio for the event. “We are grateful for the support and advice from Sharell Mikesell (Ohio State University) of the Ohio Defense Manufacturers Assistance Program, and Christopher Long (Ohio Development Services Agency) of the Market Research Assistance Pilot Project.”, she added. “The feedback from this event will be instrumental in growing current markets, and expanding into new markets for UES and Robo-Met.3D®”.
