Premier Steel Technologies, the creator of custom-built manufacturing equipment and the manufacturer of Truedek steel decking system, have recently completed an extension to the floor of Westmead Gastroenterology ward .
Working with AGS Structural P/L at Westmead Hospital Sydney, NSW, Trudek provided a cost effective and non-disruptive solution to extending the floor of the hospital ward. With the help of Truedek TD110 panels manufactured exactly to required measurements AGS Structural was able to meet their challenge of an infill slab.
The exact measurement of the required formwork was a minimum of 5 metres between existing concrete beams and spanning close to 5.4 metres. The work had to be carried out without disrupting the business located underneath where the infill slab was going to be. The shops are required by the hospital and operate seven days a week. Truedek TD110 panels, measuring 5.4 metres, were manufactured to exact measurements in the factory and then delivered to the site.
The light weight of the Truedek panels made it possible for AGS Structural to carry each panel up stairwells in the hospital and put them into place without any additional equipment. They were able to do it in the evening minimising disruption to the daily operation of the hospital and the businesses nearby. The panels were laid on support angles installed prior to the Truedek panel installation.
Truedek’s steel decking system offers flexibility in both design and construction. Construction differs according to the configuration and depending on span, load and fire rating requirements.
