Los Angeles, California (March 30, 2016) - rLoop, the only non-student team remaining in SpaceX’s first Hyperloop competition, today announced its upcoming $10,000 sponsorship from Soylent, a pioneer in food technology, delivering nutritionally- complete staple meals. rLoop is an open source and crowd sourced team working to make the Hyperloop a reality. rLoop is looking to raise $60,000 through an IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign to manufacture their prototype Hyperloop pod for testing in the summer of 2016 at SpaceX facilities in Hawthorne, California.

Formed in June of 2015 on the social media site reddit, rLoop is a non-profit, open source, online think tank comprised of more than 140 members from over 14 countries working to bring Elon Musk’s vision of the Hyperloop into reality. Among that membership are engineers from NASA, CERN, GE, Honeywell, and dozens of other top technology companies, all of whom are offering their time to help create what will be the greatest leap forward in ground based transportation since the invention of the steam engine. Using modern digital collaboration tools, none of rLoop’s work process actually happens in person, and yet the group has become the odds-on favorite to win SpaceX’s competition.

Hyperloop is a conceptual high-speed transportation system initially proposed by the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, Elon Musk. The concept consists of passenger and cargo pods being propelled at up to 765 mph in a low pressure tube using sustainable and cost-efficient energy.
To accelerate its development, SpaceX is hosting a competition for engineering teams to design their own hyperloop pods and test them at their facility in Hawthorne, California, on a test track built by well known construction and design firm AECOM. rLoop is the only non-student team remaining in the competition from an initial pool of over 1,200 submissions.
