Not Just Any Steel Decking, Truedek Panels Simplify Bunnings Warehouse Project

Not Just Any Steel Decking, Truedek Panels Simplify Bunnings Warehouse Project 2017-08-30 02:23:51
Truedek steel decking has been used in the construction of the Bunnings Warehouse at Batemans Bay. The construction of the elevated driveway and in-bound goods unloading area was very complicated due to the height. At its highest point the concrete slab is 15 meters up from the ground level.

In collaboration with the team at Northrop Consulting Engineers in Wollogong the builder Edwards Construction designed a structural steel framework supported on concrete foundation columns. Making use of Truedek TD110 panels spanning up to five metres they were able to reduce the number of foundational columns and structural steel required for the project. Truedek, a permanent concrete formwork system, is lightweight, modular, easy to handle and made to specification.

Approximately 800 Truedek panels were installed on this job. These panels were manufactured with a precamber so that a flat soffit was achieved after the wet concrete was poured. The required slab thickness varied between 275-325 mm. 100 mm slump was ordered which assisted in the flow of concrete into the Truedek panels during vibration. The project required the concrete to be 40 MPa and approximately 1000m square was poured in four sections.

Truedek, a product that is exclusively produced and sold by Premier Steel Technologies, is excellent for steel decking and has many applications for concrete-frame buildings, steel-frame buildings, large floor-to-ceiling heights, infill slabs for lift shafts and limited-access areas. The panels come in heights of 90mm, 110mm, 140 mm and 160 mm. These panels span over seven metres and typically require no propping. On multi-level construction projects, using these panels reduces the cycle time and means that fitouts can commence the day after concrete is poured.

The high quality streel construction is versatile and is a result of using a variety of steel grades, thickness and coatings for the base, web and top plate of a standard panel. Truedek is built to specification. Customers can select the best permanent steel formwork and reinforcing, factoring the requirements for fire rating, slab design and service. Premier Steel’s fully trained steel decking teams can supply and install a range of decking systems to clients for any project.
