Macaroni Kid (the popular Mom Digital Publishing Network) did a survey of 1000+ moms and found that 54.7% of women want flowers over chocolate this Valentine's Day (which is Saturday!). The new statistics are the reverse of the same survey conducted four years ago, in 2011, when 56.8% of women wanted chocolate, with 43.2% choosing flowers.
Joyce Shulman, the CEO of Macaroni Kid, suggests that, "With consumer confidence in the economy on an upswing, women are feeling like their partners can splurge on flowers this year. Back in 2011, chocolate came out on top perhaps due to the headline-making studies showing chocolate as beneficial for your heart health, but we were also coming out of a recession so chocolate may have been the more budget-conscious token of love."
The late poet-humorist Ogden Nash wrote, " Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker.”
However, flowers have always been a beautiful symbolic language rich with meanings. And flowers come at all price points. So creative romantics can give their loved ones all kinds of flowers. There are commercial florists, home garden grown, silk and paper flowers, paintings of flowers, floral jewelry, edible flowers and many more.
P.S. Men like flowers too!
