Banco Santander Chile Announces New Independent Director to its Board

Santiago, July 13, 2018. In yesterday's session, the Board of Directors of Banco Santander Chile appointed Mr. Rodrigo Vergara as an independent director to fill the seat previously held by Mr. Raimundo Monge, who resigned from the Board.

The Board of Directors thanks Mr. Monge for his commitment and contribution throughout the last 20 years, and welcomes the new director who will become part of the institution's corporate governance.

Furthermore, the Chairman of the Board Mr. Claudio Melandri designated Mr. Rodrigo Vergara as First Vicepresident of the Board, and Mr. Orlando Poblete as Second Vicepresident.

The decision was published through a material fact published in the Chilean Superintendencia de Bancos e Instituciones Financieras (SBIF) and the SEC.

Rodrigo Vergara is a tenured professor of the Institute of Economy in Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and senior economist in the Public Studies Centre. He was President of the Central Bank of Chile between 2011 and 2016. In 2012 he was chosen Economist of the Year by the national newspaper El Mercurio and a year later was nominated by the magazine Global Finance as one of the top five best presidents of central banks and number one in America. In 2013, he received the Business Award from the Economic and Administrative Sciences Faculty Foundation of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. In May 2018, Mr. Vergara was hired as an associate researcher in Harvard's Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government. He has a Business Degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a Doctorate Degree in Economy from Harvard University.
