2012-12-05 18:19:50 - Wright & McGurk is offering consumers a free evaluation of their Actos bladder cancer case. Patients who have taken Actos and later developed bladder cancer are encouraged to call.
Wright & McGurk Law announced today that they are offering free and confidential case evaluations for diabetes patients who have taken Actos (Pioglitazone) and developed bladder cancer. The manufacturer of Actos may have failed to properly warn patients of the potential risks of developing bladder cancer while taking Actos.
In June, 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a Safety Communication that taking Actos for over one year was associated with increased risk of bladder cancer by as much as 40%. According to new data in the British Medical Journal, these numbers leap to 83% in patients who have ever taken the drug.
This is disturbing news for diabetes patients, who were first sold the drug as a
safer alternative to taking Avandia, which was often linked with heart attacks and kidney failure. The news that this “safer alternative” could cause equally dangerous consequences has shocked many diabetes patients who are already suffering from ill health.
The effects of bladder cancer can be devastating and life altering. According to the National Cancer Institute, there are an estimated 70,530 cases of bladder cancer in the U.S. each year and 14,680 deaths. Researchers predict that these numbers could rise significantly to include diabetes patients taking this prescription drug. As the 9th highest selling drug in the United States, thousands of patients have taken Actos and may be at risk for developing bladder cancer.
“The newest data is incredible,” said attorney Andrew L. Wright. “That’s why we’re offering a free case evaluation. We’d like to hear from consumers exactly what their experiences have been.”
Patients who have taken Actos and later developed bladder cancer are encouraged to call Wright & McGurk today for a free case evaluation. (800) 471-0346
