Manuel Granado and Boyd Engle reunited after 69 of years of separation recently at Mirador senior living community, and Engle finally had the opportunity to thank Granado in person for saving his life so many years ago. Granado saved Engle’s life by taking him down a mountain and to a first aid station to treat leg and chest wounds after their tank was attacked. Engle, 88, and Granado, 95, lost touch after Engle was wounded and Granado was taken as a prisoner of war.
“The bond between these two men, even after all these years, is incredible to see,” said Aaron DeNovellis, executive director of Mirador. “They literally helped each other survive, and that bond is evident. I am overwhelmed
with gratitude for their service to our country and their care for one another. These are truly great men.”
With the help of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Sinton chapter, the men were able to reconnect at Mirador with their families. They have exchanged phone calls and letters over the past 15 years after Engle and his daughter found Granado through an internet search, but this was their first time face-to-face after 69 years.
