Nottinghamshire Deaf Society awaits the arrival of the Bionic Ear Show
Nottinghamshire Deaf Society is all set for the arrival of the Bionic Ear Show when it pops in on 24 February. Presented by national charity Deafness Research UK, the award winning show sponsored by BUPA and the BIG Lottery Fund provides viewers with a fun packed, entertaining and informative show on how the ear works, what can go wrong and what can be done to put things right.
The Bionic Ear Show has been designed to help people of all ages understand the importance of caring for your ears, to help prevent deafness and conditions like Tinnitus. The show also explains how the ear works for those who may already have hearing loss. The show is hosted by the
enthusiastic Tobin May and features interactive games, demonstrations and ‘the world’s largest ear’ – which is a whopping 22ft long. The underlying message surrounding the science behind ears and hearing is easy to understand and no scientific knowledge is needed to enjoy the show.
The show is taking place on Friday 24 February at the Nottinghamshire Deaf Society Community Centre on 22 Forest Road West, Nottingham. Full details can be gained from contacting the centre at
www.nottsdeaf.org.uk/ and look for the Bionic Ear Show in ‘Latest News.’
Established in 1890, the Nottinghamshire Deaf Society runs and owns a Community Centre for deaf people of all ages and for their families. The facilities and activities provided are fully accessible to deaf and disabled people, and remove communication barriers, making the Society is the perfect arena for the Bionic Ear Show, as both share the same values of providing those with hearing problems with invaluable services, advice and support.
“The Bionic Ear Show aims to educate the hearing and non-hearing community alike about the way human hearing operates, making its presentation perfect for Deaf Societies like the one in Nottingham,” said Vivienne Michael, Chief Executive of Deafness Research UK.
“One of the key messages the Bionic Ear Show will be taking to the Deaf Society, is not only how the ear works, but the latest updates on hopes for a cure for deafness, together with technological progress on cochlear implants, so called ‘Bionic Ears.”
The audience in Nottingham will have the opportunity to hear demonstrations of what it sounds like for those with high frequency hear loss, as well as a ‘guess that tune’ game allowing the audience to experience how difficult it is for those with cochlear implants to recognise the everyday sounds and music so many take for granted.
Everyone can take something positive from this award winning show, with its interactive games and visual aids providing an educational spectacle that lives long in the memory. The Bionic Ear Show includes hearing tests (for those who would like them) together with informative demonstrations about how the ear works and how to protect your hearing.
Anyone who would like the Bionic Ear Show to visit their organisation, school, community group or event free of charge should contact Laura Turner at Deafness Research UK on 020 7164 2294 or email Laura at
