WATERTOWN, MA and NIBLEY, UT -- (Marketwire) -- 02/26/13 -- WiTricity : www.witricity.com/ , the industry pioneer in highly resonant wireless power transfer over distance, announced today that the company is expanding to include a second location in Utah to fuel product development across a range of industries. The new office, located in Nibley (near Logan), will serve as a hub for WiTricity development of wireless power systems in the defense, industrial and transportation sectors through the technical expertise of several team members formerly with the Energy Dynamics Laboratory (EDL) at the Utah State University Research Foundation (USURF).

The Utah-based WiTricity team will include Director of Business Development Jeff Muhs, who brings 25 years of experience in energy- and defense-related R&D, government relations, business development and technology management. As a Utah Science Technology and Research (USTAR) strategic hire and Director of EDL during its era of rapid growth, Muhs was responsible for incubating EDL's wireless power transfer R&D program.

In addition, the team will draw on technical leadership from Ky Sealy, who will serve as principal engineer in Utah, and Aaron Gilchrist, the project lead and manager for R&D projects at the Utah facility. Sealy and Gilchrist each bring over 10 years of senior engineering and project management experience to their new roles and were central figures in the development of EDL's high-power wireless charging prototypes.

"We're delighted to add Jeff and an accomplished team of engineers with experience in high-power wireless energy transfer applications. Competition for talent in this market is fierce, and the high caliber of the Utah team will bring immediate benefits to our existing partners and clients in the automotive industry, as well as future partners as we continue to grow into new markets," said Eric Giler, CEO at WiTricity.

WiTricity also looks forward to a strong and vibrant working relationship with Utah State University. The two organizations have signed a memorandum of understanding for a public/private partnership on a host of research topics.

"There is a new ecosystem of wireless innovation emerging in Utah, and in particular, at USU. We are excited to attract top talent, create jobs, partner with USU, and invest in R&D and high-tech manufacturing capacity in the Logan metropolitan area," noted Jeff Muhs. "This expansion in Utah only reinforces the Milken Institute's designation of Logan as 'America's Best Performing Small City' for creating and sustaining jobs in 2012."

"The USU, USTAR and WiTricity partnership will make a positive impact on Cache Valley and the State of Utah," commented Robert Behunin, USU's vice president of commercialization and regional development. "Through our combined efforts we hope to build a nationally recognized wireless power ecosystem right here in Logan, UT."
