www.winn-dixie.com/ - Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., Jacksonville Robin Lake Miller, 904-370-7715 904-327-1445 (cell) robinmiller@winn-dixie.com or St. John & Partners Patrick McSweeney, 904-596-2085 904-923-4871 (cell) patrickm@sjp.com Winn-Dixie (NASDAQ:WINN) announced today its shoppers will now be able to present their Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards at any checkout when purchasing

over-the-counter health and wellness items. Upgraded software will allow the checkout system to identify qualifying products, charge them to the HSA or FSA account, and then automatically subtract that amount from the total owed for all other purchases. Formerly, customers using HSA/FSA cards to purchase these items had to pay for them at the pharmacy and then go to the regular checkout lanes to pay for the remainder of their items.

"This is all about making the shopping experience better for our customers," said Robin Miller, Winn-Dixie's director of communications. "This service enhancement also provides a separate listing and total cost of qualifying purchases on the register receipt, which is helpful for many customers. We are very pleased to be able to offer this added convenience, especially in these challenging economic times."

HSA and FSA plans have become popular because they allow individuals to set aside a portion of their earnings to pay for qualified medical expenses. Money placed into an HSA or FSA is not subject to payroll taxes, resulting in a substantial tax savings. The software upgrade is approved by the Inventory Information Approval System (IIAS).
