Will Kate Middleton Wear Pearls at a Royal Wedding? OrientalPearls.net Says It’s Highly Likely

2010-07-14 07:44:46 - Prince William is turning 28 - and many say he and winsome Kate will wed.
Will pearls figure prominently in the wedding procession? OrientalPearls.net Says it’s highly likely.

After years of speculation and rumor, the long awaited royal nuptials may at long last be at hand. Prince William and Kate Middleton are said to be formally engaged, and a wedding in the offing.

“Everyone is watching this unfold”, says Lan Toma, spokesperson for OrientalPearls.net. “Any time there is a royal wedding, anyone in the jewelry industry is going to sit up and take notice - whatever the bride ends up wearing will be setting fashion trends for the next few years for bridal jewelry.”

Traditionally, the bride of the Prince of Wales wears the Crown Jewels - a stunning array of pearls, precious gems and gold. Princess Diana preferred the ‘Grand Duchess Tiara’, which had ornate pearl clasps. Other

pearls in the Crown Jewel collection include a magnificent set of pearl earrings once worn by Elizabeth I.

The Crown Jewels aren’t the only jewelry a lady marrying the Prince may wear, however; Prince Charles proposed to Camilla Bowles with a ring inherited from his grandmother (Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother), and there is nothing to stop sweet Kate from wearing pearls of her own to the reception.

“It would be fantastic to see Kate appear walking down the aisle just dripping with pearls,” Lan Toma admitted. “That’s what we are all hoping for - it would be an incredible boost to the pearl jewelry market.”

Other recent royal affairs include the recent marriage of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden to sweetheart Daniel Westling (now Prince Daniel) - and her trousseau included pearls in her bracelet, earrings and tiara. Her bridesmaids as well featured pearls prominently.

Pearls remain a standard for royal weddings, with thousands sewn into gowns for such events. Princess Diana’s own wedding dress features 10,000 sequins and pearls, with an incredible 25 foot train. Queen Elizabeth’s own marriage as a Princess to Philip Mountbatten featured a similar dress with 10,000 pearls and a 15 foot lace train.

“Seed pearl beading is coming back in vogue,” Lan Toma said. “We’re seeing the brocaded bodices and trains with pearls sewn on again, and a royal wedding dress in this style would definitely encourage this trend.”

Until the rumors of an upcoming royal wedding are confirmed by the Queen, all is still speculation - but the fact that the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will take place in 2012 and the British Royals love coinciding events does seem to point to a wedding in the offing, especially since the two lovebirds are said to have moved in together.

In the meantime, Kate continues to set fashion trends by pairing pearls with every conceivable outfit, from formal wear to camouflage as she appears regularly at social events. Her dog, Otto, reputedly ate one set of cultured pearl studs William gave her for her birthday, but the Prince promised to buy her replacements.
