"During summer months, builders often have a backlog of requests, and in many areas, there can be long delays in processing permits," said Strauss. "In the fall, excavation and landscaping are rarely held up due to hard frosts, rainy spells or unusual dryness. What's more, homeowners are generally not taking vacations in the fall, so the builder and crew will have more access to the property."
