Camp Lantern Creek’s Bright Lights Illuminate New Path for Girls
Texas Media Star Kicks-off Mentorship Program
Montgomery, TX March 27, 2014: A recent study concludes that girls who have mentors have higher academic achievement and are four times less likely to become bullies. Shockingly, only one in five girls believes she has the qualities to be a good leader. Building on this fact, Camp Lantern Creek, a Montgomery, Texas summer camp for girls age 7 to 17 years old, is launching its new Bright Lights mentoring program, bringing high-achieving women to camp to inspire, educate and entertain. Camp Lantern Creek not only offers “traditional” camp activities but has also introduced
useful life skills, like how to change a flat tire.
The first Bright Light speaker, who will join girls and their mothers at the annual Mother/Daughter weekend, is Kerry Howley, Managing Editor for Houstonia Magazine. Each “Bright Light” speaker will share her story of how she went from being “just another girl” to an empowered, confident, and successful woman. Bright Lights visiting camp this summer also include Candice Beckmann, Strategic Consultant for Moolah U.
“Girls love hearing from women who were once just like them – perhaps a bit shy or insecure or confused about their futures. We are picking Bright Lights who are down-to-earth and relatable but have terrific stories to tell about their lives and careers,” says Lantern Creek co-founder Sunni Markowitz.
Two other new 2014 programs are:
It was considered such a success that the same technology will be used for parent orientation this year. The camp directors will “visit” prospective parents via computer, tablet, or smart phone. Says Markowitz, “So many parents are pressed for time these days, but they still want to meet the camp directors and learn about program details. Moms and dads can dial-in from wherever they are!” The first party was held on March 26th.
