What the Human Resource Professional Needs To Know About The America Invents Act

2013-01-22 18:33:47 - On March 15, 2013, the America Invents Act will implement the First To File rule, which is the most extensive revision of US patent law in over 50 years.

These sweeping changes could affect employment agreements, employee handbooks and employee policies. Additionally, the recent case of Milliken v. Morin, involving nondisclosure and invention assignment agreements, will be discussed.

This practical discussion will address the new law and the recent case, including how they may affect your HR department, policies, agreements and procedures. This program is designed for business

owners and officers, HR directors, inventors, R&D departments and other personnel involved in the creation or use of innovative technologies.

The panel includes:
Douglas W. Kim, Shareholder, McNair Law Firm, P.A. - Doug Kim, head of the Intellectual Property Group of McNair, will discuss the America Invents Act, the changes including the First To File, the new procedures for challenging patents, the new patent application process, the post-grant review of patents and third party challenges to innovation. These topics will affect current, former and future employees.

Rita M. McKinney, Managing Unit Shareholder, McNair Law Firm, P.A. - Rita McKinney is the Managing Shareholder of the Upstate Unit of McNair Law Firm. She focuses her practice on employment law, physician representation and business litigation.

Reginald M. Gay, Shareholder, McNair Law Firm, P.A. - Reggie Gay’s primary areas of practice include labor and employment law, litigation, health care and appellate advocacy. Rita and Reggie will discuss the impact of the Milliken v. Morin case on employee agreements, nondisclosure agreements and invention assignment agreements.
