2013-10-03 20:15:58 - On October 1st, 2013, the ObamaCare Health Insurance Exchange, or HIX, opens for business.
These ObamaCare Exchanges are state, federal or joint-run online marketplaces where Americans can use their state's "Affordable Care" Insurance program to become insured under competing private health care providers. Price calculators can help them make the decision easier by showing them if they qualify for subsidies and to see side-by-side comparisons of the qualified health plans.
These Exchanges will allow each state individually to select which plans they will offer, from using their government stipend to simply buy private insurance to giving the choice entirely over to the federal government. However, many of these states have not made their decisions, regardless of the fact that the registration begins October 1st. This comes from the federal government not making their decisions on
the programs they will sponsor.
The federal government will fully fund these programs, beginning in 2014, until 2017. After that, they will slowly roll back their support, allowing the states to fund and run these programs independently.
