West Michigan Youth Symphony to Perform Fall Concert

Muskegon, Michigan, November 13, 2012 –

The concert will include performances from the Youth Symphony Orchestra as well as the youth symphony’s new program, Debut Strings.

“We are excited to showcase our two ensembles at this year’s fall concert,” said Daniel M. Meyers, Youth Symphony music director and conductor. “Debut Strings has been an ensemble we have wanted

to offer for several years, and we are so pleased to showcase their talents in this performance.

“We’re looking forward to sharing this exceptional concert experience with our audience members.”

The program will feature a movement from Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2, “Sentimental Saraband” from Britten’s Simple Symphony, “Russian Christmas Music” by Alfred Reed, “First Suite for Military Band” by Gustav Holst, and crowd favorite “Bugler’s Holiday” by Leroy Anderson, which will be performed by three trombone soloists.

Members of WMYS earned places in the ensemble through auditions. The members represent 17 middle and high schools from Hart and Montague to the north, Fremont and Casnovia to the east, Zeeland to the south and points in between. Additionally, the orchestra includes student members from Muskegon Community College.

Tickets for the concert are available in person at the West Michigan Symphony office at 425 W. Western Avenue, Suite 409, Muskegon, or at the door on the day of the concert beginning at 2:15 p.m. Adult tickets are $10, seniors 65 and over are $5, and students 18 and younger, or with a college ID, are free.
