Habitat for Humanity Of Hillsborough Needs Families And Volunteers
TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 15, 2013) - A team of employees from WellCare Health Plans,
Inc. (NYSE: WCG) recently joined Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County to
help build a safe and affordable home in the Tampa Bay area. The company's
employees helped construct the roof and install insulation. In addition,
WellCare donated $6,000 to the organization. Habitat for Humanity of
Hillsborough County is currently searching for a qualified family to match with
this home, the newest addition to its Providence Pointe community.
To qualify for a Habitat for Humanity home, a family of four must be able to
make between $17,000 and $45,000 per year, below the 2013 median income
guideline set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
(HUD).
With the latest data reporting that Hillsborough County's median household
income is $50,195, Habitat for Humanity homes may be a viable option for a
significant number of residents. Unfortunately, many are unaware that they may
qualify.
"Our mission is to build homes, build lives and build hope in Hillsborough
County, and we encourage residents to learn more about becoming a Habitat
homeowner," said Jackie Buckler, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of
Hillsborough County. "We are able to provide stable, affordable homes largely
through the sponsorships and volunteer support we receive from partners like
WellCare."
"WellCare is committed to doing what we can to help meet the needs of the
communities in which our members live, including assistance with food, housing,
transportation, utilities and more," said Lisa Iglesias, Senior Vice President
and General Counsel, and one of the WellCare volunteers. "We are proud to
continue our six-year partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough
County."
As part of the Habitat for Humanity home ownership process, a family must invest
300 "sweat equity" hours into the construction process. The 3-4 bedroom homes
are valued at approximately $99,500 and offered with 30-year, no-interest
mortgages. Nominal closing costs and other credit and debt qualifications also
apply. To learn more about how to apply, or to donate funds, home improvement
