TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 14, 2013) - WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) today
announced that the WellCare Community Foundation has donated $10,000 to the
American Red Cross to assist local Georgia communities impacted by the
devastating tornado that swept across Bartow and Gordon counties on Jan.
30, 2013.
"WellCare and our associates are committed to helping support our neighbors as
they recover from this devastating event," said David McNichols, WellCare of
Georgia President. "The tornado impacted the lives of our members and providers
throughout the area. We appreciate the work of the American Red Cross and the
key role it is playing in bringing needed disaster relief services to our
communities."
WellCare of Georgia took steps to ensure its members received uninterrupted
access to health care services and supplies in the storm's
aftermath. As of Dec.
31, 2012, WellCare served more than 600,000 Georgia residents who are enrolled
in its Medicaid, PeachCare for KidsĀ®, Medicare Advantage and Medicare
Prescription Drug Plans.
"It's only through the generosity of the community that Georgia's Red Cross is
able to bring relief to neighbors devastated by disasters like the recent
