The thermal insulation panel made out of sheep's wool and lime (WEKA) has been recognized with two awards in the USA and in Europe. BUILDERSnews magazine (WA) featured WEKA as one of the green and best new 'Products of the year 2008'. The Environmental Agency of South Tyrol honored the developer of WEKA, Mr. Walter Tasser, with the 'Umweltpreis Suedtirol'.
The first rigid insulation panel made out of sheep's wool is now available, which eliminates even mold or pests using lime, a natural alkaline stabilizer.
Due to the simplicity of the ingredients, which are local resources and the basic and sustainable production process the WEKA panel has been developed to achieve the smallest environmental foot print.
In addition based on the natural characteristics of wool an independent institute has certified one of the highest possible insulation values with k = 0.05 W/mK (R value of 6.5 @ 1 inch thickness). Sheep's wool is naturally fire resistant.
The WEKA panel has been used and installed in the interior of existing or new homes replacing fiberglass and drywalls. Air contaminants from other sources
can be adsorbed in to the wool as well as humidity (wool has the capacity do adsorb water up to 40% of it's own weight). Wool provides a high level of quality and comfort for living spaces.
In December the WEKA panel has been recognized as "Best New Products of the Year 2008" by BUILDERSnews magazine. The developer Mr. Walter Tasser received the 'Umweltpreis Suedtirol' from the Environmental Agency of South Tyrol and the Minister of Agriculture Mr. Berger.
