- WaveMarket (www.wavemarket.com), a leader in mobile location-based search and services, today announced the launch of Veriplace(TM), its standards-based open location and privacy platform. Based on the same commercially-proven security and privacy solutions used in WaveMarket's industry leading Family Locator products already available on tens of millions of mobile phones, the Veriplace(TM) mobile location platform provides WAP, Web, SMS, and

Mobile developers access to a user's location--as long as the user grants access. Developers interested in building on Veriplace(TM) can find information and tools to sign up at: developer.wavemarket.com/.

While users can access location from their mobile phones today, each application offers its own privacy rules and controls, which can make it hard to keep track of which applications and users are allowed to locate the customer at any given time. By contrast, WaveMarket's Veriplace(TM) puts the user in complete control of his location information across many applications by offering a single, consistent, powerful user interface with which he can allow or deny access to his location on a case-by-case basis from the web, WAP, or SMS. Users can grant or revoke location permission to friends or individual applications, for certain times, and can instantly revoke permission at any time--all from a consistent interface. The Veriplace(TM) location platform even allows a user to obscure his exact location--allowing a WAP site, for example, to see what neighborhood he is in, but not his exact location.

"Veriplace(TM) offers our carrier customers huge revenue opportunities--they can quickly deploy many location-based applications in a secure way, using the proven security and privacy features that many of them have already thoroughly scrutinized as part of our Family Locator platform," said Tasso Roumeliotis, WaveMarket's CEO. "This gives them the flexibility to meet the demands of their customers, who are eager for location-based applications, while retaining full control of the privacy and security measures they require to ensure the best customer experience."

For application developers, WaveMarket Veriplace(TM) offers simple mobile and network-based APIs to access a user's location. The platform leverages and extends industry-standard open authentication and authorization technologies, and handles authentication, permissions, privacy, a variety of location technologies, and auditing. This allows the application developer to focus on how best to use the location information, instead of the challenges of accessing it. The network-based API specifically enables Web, WAP, and SMS developers to access a mobile user's location with that user's permission. WaveMarket is demonstrating its solutions at the CTIA Show in the NAVTEQ booth kiosk number 1661 at CTIA WIRELESS(R) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
