Soul star DIONNE WARWICK has appeared before Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. to fight for royalties rights for performers.
The Walk on By singer is urging top politicians to make radio station b osses pay performers for broadcasting their
music.
The 69 year old wants new legislation which will close loopholes and fo rce broadcasters to pay fees to musicians, similar to those paid to songw riters.
Satellite radio, Internet radio and cable TV music channels already pay fees to performers and musicians, along with songwriter royalties, and W arwick wants AM and FM radio stations to do the same.
The National Association of Broadcasters officials argues such legislat ion would put thousands of radio employees out of work.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers has agreed to support W arwick's argument, stating, "They (performers) work and they don't get pa id. That's involuntary servitude."
