2014-03-25 13:19:46 - A healthcare assistant working at The Junction Health Centre in Clapham has been named sexual health professional of the year. Tinu Oluwole scooped the top national prize during a glittering award ceremony in London for the Brook 2014 UK Sexual Health Awards.
After receiving her prize from comic actor and novelist Jenny Éclair, Tinu, who has worked at The Junction Health Centre next to Clapham Junction station since it opened four years ago, said: “I couldn’t believe it when I heard I had won the award. I just love my job and do it to the best of my ability. I’m fortunate to be part of a great team and have a really good manager who makes everyone feel like they want to do their best. We’re like one big family. I’m not a sexual health specialist but it is a large part of my role.”
The Junction Health Centre, which is run on behalf of the NHS by independent healthcare organisation Care
UK, is open every day 8am-8pm offering a registered GP practice and a walk-in centre. It provides local people with advice and treatment for general health problems and also offers a range of additional services such as vaccinations and immunisations, contraception services, cervical screening, diabetes and asthma clinics and stop smoking cessation clinics.
Tinu’s manager, Nav Sahota, said: “Tinu has picked up many company awards in her time with us. She’s the type of person who always goes that extra mile and is excellent with our patients. I think it was her major contribution to an HIV awareness campaign run by the local health authority in the autumn which particularly helped her to deservedly win this prestigious award.”
