(NASDAQ: VOLT) today announced that it will provide Level 3 InfiniBand customer support for Novell customers. This agreement makes Novell the first major operating systems vendor to team with a leading fabric technology company to provide comprehensive support for its customers who use InfiniBand.
"As more customers select SUSE Linux Enterprise for their high-bandwidth and low-latency computing needs, we're seeing increased adoption of InfiniBand - particularly in financial services and manufacturing," said Moiz Kohari, vice president of engineering for Novell. "It was important for Novell to provide a complete support offering
to these customers, and we selected Voltaire based on its leadership in delivering end-to-end InfiniBand support."
Novell's customers using SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 and InfiniBand technology will be provided full support through Novell, utilizing Voltaire resources for Level 3 support. This joint arrangement provides comprehensive, one-stop support for both the operating system and InfiniBand capabilities, allowing customers to take advantage of improved performance and the highest levels of availability. Voltaire will provide the Level 3 support regardless of the type of InfiniBand hardware used by the customer.
According to an IDC White Paper sponsored by the Linux Foundation, Linux ecosystem spending on software, hardware and services totaled $21 billion in 2007 and is projected to grow to $49 billion in 2011, thanks in part to the continued growth of the installed base of Linux server operating systems into enterprise deployments.(1)
"The majority of InfiniBand deployments are on the Linux operating system and we're very pleased to have been selected by Novell, a leader in real-time enterprise Linux, to provide InfiniBand support for their customers," said Asaf Somekh, vice president of strategic alliances, Voltaire. "The customer demand for enterprise-class support is a strong indicator of the continued growth of InfiniBand as a data center fabric."
