Grenada is an island nation that includes the southern Grenadines in the southeastern Caribbean Sea. Popularly known as The Spice Isle' because of an abundance of locally grown spices and a culture of music, dance and food built into the image of spice of life'. It is one of the smallest independent nations in the Western Hemisphere.
Tobago is the smaller of the two main islands that make up the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The 300 km² Island is located in the southern Caribbean Sea, northeast of the island of Trinidad. Tourism is concentrated in the southwest of the island, around Crown Point, Store Bay, Pigeon Point and Buccoo Reef. This area has large expanses of sand and is dominated by resort type developments. Tobago has many idyllic beaches around its coastline, especially those at Castara, Bloody Bay, and Englishman's Bay.
Today Trinidad is the result of a fusion of many different cultures. It hosts an annual pre-Lenten Carnival. It is the birthplace of Calypso music, the Steelpan musical instrument pie and Limbo dance. Styles of popular music include calypso, chutney music, soca and parang. Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago is the event of the year. It is said that if the islanders are not celebrating it then they are preparing for it while reminiscing about the past year's festival. The heart of the musical celebration is the calypso. Recently, Soca has replaced Calypso as the most mainstream type of music. Musical competitions make up a large part of Carnival and to win a competition is highly coveted. For example, to be named Calypso Monarch is one of the island's greatest honors, and the competition is aired on television. As with other Carnivals, many participants wear elaborate costumes, often decorated with feathers and sequins.
Los Testigos is the most remote of the Venezuela islands and inhabited by a handful (160 people) of fishing families. The Islands are different with huge sand dunes, gorgeous beaches, lots of fish and lobsters.
Isla de Coche was discovered in 1498 by Christopher Columbus and is one of three islands forming the Nueva Esparta State of Venezuela, located in the Caribbean between Isla Margarita and the mainland. It covers an area of 55 km² with a population of about 8,200.
Margarita Island is situated in the Caribbean Sea, off the northeastern coast of Venezuela. Most of the island's 420,000 residents live in the more developed eastern part, especially in the city of Porlamar and adjoining city of Pampatar. The island has numerous beaches, which range from solitary to crowded. Playa El Agua, in the north, is the most popular with 4 km of fine sand. Playa El Yaque is internationally known as an excellent location for windsurfing. Playa Parguito, Playa Caribe, and Punta de Arena are also popular beaches.
