Virtuoso Guitarist Reveals Secrets To Building Profitable Guitar Teaching Business
In his resource, Hess discusses the biggest mistakes made by most guitar teachers that keep them from building profitable and successful teaching businesses.
Hess states, “Most guitar teachers have very few students and earn less than 35 thousand dollars each year teaching full time hours... causing them to eventually grow frustrated and tired of teaching lessons. On the other hand, there is a small percentage of guitar teachers who earn much more than 100 thousand dollars per year, help tons of students and only working part time hours. These stats are a testament to the fact that it is certainly possible to do HUGE things in your guitar teaching business. You simply
need to make some key adjustments in order to fix the problem areas that are holding you back.”
Hess then goes on to state several reasons why most guitar teachers do not make a lot of money in their teaching businesses:
“Guitar teachers lose a ton of money by teaching at music stores rather than from home or in their own personal studio. They work at these stores because they think that it will make it easier to get more students (because the store will do all the work for them) and it will make them look more professional. Truth is, music stores expect ‘you’ to go out and find students for yourself. Very few guitar students care about whether they take lessons from your home or from a music store... they just want ‘results’. To make things worse, you actually lose a lot more money because you have to pay a certain percentage to the music store for every lesson you teach.”
Most guitar teachers are worried about finding new students. Hess comments on this common situation:
“When you focus all your efforts on merely finding students, you are not likely to actually keep them for long periods of time. This is because you never developed a strategy (or strategies) for retaining students once you get them. This is a common mistake that nearly all guitar teachers are guilty of making, and it truly keeps them from expanding their businesses and earning big money. To earn 6 figures or more per year teaching guitar, you must consistently improve in all areas of your guitar teaching business at the same time.”
