BETHESDA, MD -- (Marketwire) -- 11/20/12 -- A recent industry study released October 23rd by the Inter-American Dialogue provides a scorecard of remittance service providers, ranking Viamericas Corporation as #1. The report, titled "The Market for Money Transfers: Ranking of Remittance Service Providers in Latin America and the Caribbean," was conducted by a preeminent scholar of money transfer markets, Dr. Manuel Orozco, Director of the Remittances and Development Program at the Inter-American Dialogue, the leading U.S. center for policy analysis and communication on issues in Western Hemisphere affairs.





The study graded 37 leading remittance companies working in the US to Latin America and the Caribbean across 24 countries representing over 90 percent of all remittance flows from the U.S. to Latin America and the Caribbean. Remittance companies were graded on twelve indicators, including product offering, number of countries they operate in, cost, payment networks and consumer confidence. Viamericas earned the highest total point scores throughout the 12 categories.



Last year, Latin America and the Caribbean received roughly $65.9 billion from its expatriates, reaching an 8% growth in 2011. Remittances continue to be an indispensable support for millions of families in the region by helping them cover basic expenses such as food, shelter, and healthcare.
