2010-05-03 22:15:19 - With the increase in popularity of 'green' vacations, Uvita on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, is quickly become a hot spot with eco-tourists.

We read about it every where we turn, advertising for "eco-friendly", "green" and "nature lovers" vacations. But where is the real hotspot for tourists looking for a vacation slightly off the beaten path? Uvita is where.

Uvita is a small village nestled at the bottom of the Talamanca Mountain range. Over the past few years, Uvita has skyrocketed in popularity. Not only has Uvita grown commercially but this quaint village is now an increasingly popular destination for eco-tourists looking for a vacation with nature.

All around the area of Uvita there is plenty of adventurous activities to be had. From riding all-terrain vehicles through the mountains to zip lining above the Costa Rican rainforest, no matter what your idea of adventure is,

you will most likely find it in Uvita.

Some great examples of things to do in Uvita (www.uvita.net) are:

1.) Pavon waterfall - This relatively small waterfall in not be missed. Sure upon first sight one might believe this waterfall was designed by man however you'd be wrong. The waterfall drops between two massive boulders with an large egg shaped rock placed like a poached egg between them. At the base is a small pool great for a refreshing swim to escape the jungle heat.

2.) Ventanas beach - In English this means, Windows Beach. The beach at low tide has natural caves along the beach that permit you to walk through (at low tide). Nestled in it's own private cove, Ventanas beach is a great place to spend the day with the family.

3.) Ultra light aerial tours - There is nothing like soaring above the beaches of Uvita in an ultra light aircraft. Tours are available that will take you above the canopy and the many beaches of the area. This is a great opportunity for getting some memorable photos so bring your camera on this tour!

4.) Corcovado National Park - National Geographic called it one of the most bio-diverse locations on the planet. Corcovado National Park has something for everyone. Photographers will appreciate the many species of wildlife and birds in the area as will the eco-tourist looking to delve deep in to the natural environment of years past. Some compare Corcovado to a real life Jurassic Park.

5.) Caño Island - Only second to Isla del Coco for dive locations in Costa Rica, Caño Island is an amazing undersea adventure where you can view hammerhead sharks, whale sharks (largest fish in the ocean), humpback whales, dolphins and many many more, all in their natural environment.

If you are looking for adventure or just eco-tourism, then you might want to add Uvita, Costa Rica to your MUST SEE list. See you soon and PURA VIDA!
