Leading global modem manufacturer USRobotics : cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww .. , a Platinum Equity company, today announced the launch of USRobotics 56K USB Soft Modem (USR5639) : cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww .. , a new compact USB modem. Featuring plug and play installation and a projected end user price point under €44/£40, this modem is designed to fit into the most confined spaces, which will offer many advantages for mobile applications and point-of-sale solutions. The USRobotics USB Softmodem is approved for the US, Canada, and Europe and is qualified for additional worldwide regulatory approvals.

Bruce Swail, CEO at USRobotics, said the USRobotics USB Softmodem has been designed specifically for customers with point-of-sale or machine-to-machine systems that require a compact dial-up fax modem to send

and receive secure data. “Ultimately, the goal of this new USB Softmodem is to deliver a cost effective and reliable solution for our customers in a more practical size.” He continued, “The Softmodem is bus-powered; there’s no need for an outside power source, making it easy to be incorporated into a wide range of data transfer solutions throughout North America and Europe.”

Today, universal broadband access and broadband connectivity are more available and more reliable than ever. For security reasons, or during a loss of broadband service, businesses still need the capability to backup, manage and monitor their networks ‘out of band’, or to exchange data without broadband. The Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) remains the most reliable communications network in the world for secure data transfer and one can safely consolidate and exchange critical company data, using a dial-up modem. USRobotics dial-up modems are inexpensive to install, easier to maintain, and offer better security than ‘always on’ broadband. Most point-of-sale systems’ credit card readers only require 2.4 Kbps, while 56K USB Soft Modem offers 14 times this speed.

The size and cost of the USRobotics Softmodem makes it an indispensable tool for both large and small-scale businesses. Small and light, with plug-and-play operation, the Softmodem is suitable for use on both laptop and desktop computers and is compatible with V.92 and lower rates making it ideal for compact point-of-sale solutions. The USR USB Softmodem’s Plug and Play installation is optimal for businesses with a high volume of varied computer systems. The Softmodem can send and receive faxes through the computer while concurrently running multiple applications, allows preferred modem default settings to be permanently stored, and includes ring detection and qualification which eliminates unintended wake-on-ring events. The USR Softmodem supports most dial up standards.

Because USRobotics is committed to keeping its technology products safe for the environment, the new USB Softmodem is both RoHS and WEEE compliant.
