United States Senator John Kerry has forwarded a complaint "directly" to the
Board of Medicine after her son, Brian Evans, complained about the treatment he
believes caused her death.

"The Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts put a 62 year old woman,
with a known condition of sleep apnea, with a known heart condition, who was
throwing up all day while on a morphine drip, who was fifty pounds overweight at
just 5'2 because she couldn't walk on her knee so she recently started to gain
weight, in an unmonitored recovery room following knee replacement surgery,"
says her son, Brian Evans. "For even one minute, that was completely
unacceptable and caused her death. Without monitoring or the sleep apnea machine
they knew she was prescribed a CPAP for at home
just weeks before, she died without a single person in that hospital knowing she was having a problem. She couldn't even jump out of bed to alert anyone of a problem as her knee was completely wrapped from knee replacement surgery. No matter what caused her death, she didn't have a fighting chance because no one was alerted to any issue she was having." A meeting is scheduled at the State House in Boston with state senators Brownsberger and Tarr, along with an inspector from the Quality Care division of the Department of Health. The Governor of Massachusetts is expected to attend. Evans spoke with Patrick Kennedy at a rally for Elizabeth Warren on November 5th, exactly one month after she died, and provided them with information on his mother.
