Completing the Pictures
The Blackberry Bold 9700 is a makeover on RIM’s first generation Bold that had fans complaining about the absence of many features already taken for granted on smartphones in its price range. RIM made sure to accommodate and address these features while retaining those corporate functions that have endeared the Blackberry brand among the more serious corporate users.
• RIM adds a few more vertical lines on the same 2.6-inch display to give it more brilliance with a 480 x 360 pixel resolution on the same light-sensing display. Sporting a sleeker shiny body measuring 109 mm x 60 mm x 14.1 mm and weighing just 122 grams, the typical QWERTY handset departs from implementing the typical Blackberry trackball and puts in a more responsive optical touchpad. The QWERTY keyboard gets redesigned with sculpted keys with a more tactile feel on its sculpted keys.
• As a quad band GSM phone, the Bold 9700 now has 3G with HSDPA/HSUPA data connectivity for a truly satisfying internet browsing and downloading experience. There’s also Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR as well as WiFi 802.11b/g to support local high speed wireless data transfers.
• You get the new UMA voice calls over WiFi which Vodafone should activate in the UK the way T-mobile has in the US.
• There’s 256 MB flash ROM and an ample 1GB of RAM that can be expanded up to 16 GB using its microSDHC slot. 32GB is also supported once the card becomes available.
• Needless to say, you get the same access to the Blackberry App store as well as access your corporate email account from the Blackberry Enterprise Server via the Blackberry Internet Service.

The multimedia features get beefed up with a bigger 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash that also supports video recording and geo-tagging courtesy of its TeleNav GPS navigator. Using the Blackberry Desktop Manager, you can have the handset synchronized with the media contents on your iTunes and Windows Media Player on either a Mac or PC. Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP takes care of your wireless stereo earphones on top of the 3.5mm headphone jack.
