Unleaded Software takes the approach to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) that “organic” rankings are more desirable than those generated through Search Engine Marketing (SEM) strategies. SEO organic rankings are those generated by all of the SEO efforts – landing pages, page copy, page titles, keywords, meta title tags, descriptions, blogs, press releases, and link building – that push a site up higher on the pages and the rankings of completed searches. SEM is a measurement of pay-per-click advertising that one would pay to Google/Yahoo, et al, to be placed high in certain search criteria. Organic searches carry more cache and authority with internet users searching the web. Generally internet users know which listings are paid advertisements, and which are granted some measure of authority by the search engines based upon the popularity of the site.
While we can and do provide SEM services and consulting, our goal is to move clients’ web site efforts from a pay-per-click environment to a quality “organic” ranking as soon as possible. However, many companies have used SEM successfully over a period of time to generate the kind of sales leads and calls that generate business. We have many clients for whom these paid techniques are integral to their marketing efforts. We believe, however, that with the proper deployment of a full host of SEO organic techniques, these websites can be weaned off of SEM and produce even greater – and more authoritative – ranking results and sales success through organic SEO.
Almost all of our clients – new websites, revamped websites and SEO-only clients – stay with us on monthly maintenance contracts where each month we put in just a little more time honing the SEO, adding to blogs, building links, and generally keeping the site on the forefront of SEO effectiveness. Of course, the best way to build prominence in the search engines is to begin with designing and developing a modern, best-practices website from the ground up and incorporate every SEO technique in the building process. Search engines evaluate text, so when we build websites we plan them out to have as many landing pages, or sub pages – the individual pages that address each aspect of a website owner’s business/endeavor – as possible. For example, if the website is for a plumber, the “Home” page would be an overview of the company and its services; the sub pages would each describe in detail each of the services, like “kitchen plumbing,” “water heaters,” etc., and each would have its own set of robust SEO text. In this way, the plumber seeks to garner a high ranking in the search engines for, say, “Denver Plumbers,” through its home page and all pages collectively, but also a high ranking when the search criteria entered are for “kitchen plumbing” and “water heaters,” etc. The object is to be ranked high in as many related search categories as possible, and have as many opportunities to show up high in the rankings as can be created. Often times, a search for “Water heaters Denver” in this example, for instance, would yield a search result which would take a searcher directly to the plumber’s sub page for “Water heaters.” Anything to generate a lead.
