Fast Market Research recommends "United Arab Emirates Consumer Electronics Report Q2 2010" from Business Monitor International, now available The UAE's consumer electronics devices market, defined as the addressable market for computing devices, mobile handsets and AV products, is projected at around US$2.7bn in 2010. This expected to increase to US$3.6bn by 2014, driven by the popularity of new electronic devices such as LED and 3G TV sets, 3G mobile handsets, smartphones, feature-rich notebooks and Blu-Ray format DVD players.
In H209 , there were signs of improved consumer confidence, after sales of some AV products had suffered a double-digit dip in the first half of 2009 due to the economic downturn. Retailers Sharaf and Jacky's Electronics reported that sales had stabilised in July and August in terms of volume sales and were achieving solid growth. Bank deposits had increased in H109, suggesting that there was money to spend when confidence returned. Computers Computer hardware accounted for around 58% of UAE consumer electronics spending in 2009. BMI forecasts UAE domestic market computer hardware sales (including notebooks and accessories) of US$1.6bn in 2010, up from US$1.5bn in 2009. Computer hardware compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for the 2010-2014 period is forecast at about 8%. Stronger demand in the notebook sector was the main 2009 growth driver, as consumers felt the benefits of aggressive channel promotions. AV AV devices accounted for around 31% of UAE consumer electronics spending in 2009. The UAE addressable AV device market is projected at US$855mn this year. The market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4% between 2010-2014, to a value of US$1.1bn in 2014. The roll-out of HD TV broadcasting in the UAE will drive demand for premium TV sets and Blu-Ray devices. Mobile Handsets Mobile handset sales accounted for around 11% of UAE consumer electronics spending in 2009. Following a reverse last year, UAE market handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of 7% to US$374mn in 2014, as mobile subscriber penetration reaches 234%. Sales will be dominated by the replacement market and revenues driven by demand for smartphones and 3G handsets, as Etisalat launched its ownbrand mobile broadband handset in October 2009.
