As a commitment in spreading the usage of internet and information technology particularly in the governorates and the remote areasin the Kingdom and for seeking to contribute to building a Jordanian economy and society based on knowledge, Umniah participated in establishing and equipping a knowledge station in Balama- located in the Mafraq governorate.

Umniah’s support to establish and open a knowledge station inBalama in cooperation withthe Ministry of Communications and Information Technology comes from its belief in the joint ventures between the public and private sectorsand its belief in the importance of empoweringthe local community with knowledge tools, information technology,as well as the Internet especially in the governorates and the remote areas.

Umniah has previously supported and equipped a knowledge station in

Al Hashimieh by providing it with equipment and advanced tools in addition to high-speed Internet to qualify the beneficiaries and to ensure and strengthen their role in the society.

On this occasion,the Minister of Industry and Trade and the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Hatem Halawani stressed on the importance of the knowledge stations in bridging the digital gap between various governorates of the Kingdom pointing out that this is in line with the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II to enable and develop the local communities in all categories and provide them with knowledge toolsto contributetothe development of education and achieve comprehensive development.

Dr.Halawani thanked Umniah for supporting and adopting various government initiatives that aim to spread the knowledge and technology to allsociety segments stressing on the importance of the genuine partnership and cooperation between the public and the private sectors to promote these stations and increase their capabilities.

From his end Umniah’sCEO Ihab Hinnawi said: "Umniah’s support for the opening of the knowledge station emphasizes on the importance of the coordination with the public sector represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the National Information Technology Center as it supportsspreading the information technologyand the culture of the Internetusage. Moreover, the importance of this initiative comes from Umniah’s belief in providing Internet services togovernorates and remote areasespecially for those who can’t acquire internet servicesat their homes. "

Hanawi stressed on the importance of supporting the knowledge stations initiative, which will spread in all governorates of the Kingdom in order to enhance the culture ofknowledge and the Internet usage and to empower the local community tobuild a knowledge-based society.

It’s worth mentioning that the Knowledge Stationsfounded in 2001 have contributed through its 190 stations in different governorates of the Kingdom, by providing computerand Internet services and by rehabilitating individuals and train them to use information technology in the governorates and remote areasin coordination with the organizers of the program at the Information Technology centers, thecivil societyinstitutions,and the municipalities.

These stations aim toreduce the digital gap between the regions and the governorates of the Kingdom, and to introduce the information and communication technology tools to individuals and institutions in various provinces and encourage them to use it, in addition to provide them withtools that help themin their daily activities.


Additionally, the stations will help to upgrade the community through engaging its members with programs and training courses in the field of information and communication technologyleading them to acquire new skills and increase their competitiveness.
