2012-01-31 21:51:24 - Hot Sauce is Downright Clean Compared to Hazarding Muddy Obstacles at Night

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 31, 2012 – Call it the anti-Wing Bowl.

Sure, the gastrointestinally gifted can down chicken wings by the bucketfull. But it takes real intestinal fortitude to run seven miles while negotiating military-style obstacles and conquering your fears – at night. El Wingador need not apply.

The Ultimate Mud Run: Night Ops comes to New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville April 21-22, and as an official sponsor of Wing Bowl 2012, attendees can get a sneak preview of the muddy madness it entails. The key word is muddy: wing eaters may get hot sauce splashed across their faces and hands, but that doesn’t begin to compare to how dirty challengers will get during the Ultimate Mud Run.

“This is an opportunity for

average people to push their limits in a fun, controlled environment, while raising money for some great organizations,” says Phil Pirollo, Ultimate Mud Run event coordinator. “It’s more about facing your fears than being a great athlete. And as you can imagine, it’s a real party atmosphere, especially when we do this at night.”

Section 101 of the Wells Fargo Center will be transformed into Ultimate Mud Run Central, where fans will root on the Ultimate Mud Run’s eating contestant, Breadan Lyman, a.k.a. “Skin and Bones.” On the Wing Bowl floor, they’ll also get to meet the “Mud Girls,” get an autograph from legendary Flyers’ goaltender Bernie Parent, and claim one of 1,500 Ultimate Mud Run: Night Ops t-shirts being given away.

This is actually the first Ultimate Mud Run to take place in the U.S. at night. Presented by U.S. Mud Sports, the governing body which hosts similar events across the country throughout the year, the event includes obstacles with names like Balls to the Walls, Cliffhanger and the particularly mud-entrenched Caught in a Cycle. These and other highlights of Ultimate Mud Run will play on the Jumbotron during Wing Bowl, and those who still have the courage to test themselves both mentally and physically can register on-site.

Registrants can save 10 percent by earmarking a portion of their registration fee to go to a charity of their choice, from a list that includes Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Purple Heart Veterans Foundation.

“Wing Bowl is a great Philadelphia tradition, a test of endurance and discipline. But when the eating and maybe the purging are done with, the Ultimate Mud Run is the next challenge on the calendar for anyone who wants to push themselves beyond their limits,” says Pirollo.
