According to upcoming research report “Turkey Wind Power Sector Outlook 2016” by KuicK Research, the cumulative wind power installed capacity in Turkey grew by more than 25% in 2011 to reach close to 1.7 GW. The Turkey wind power sector has been expanding gradually in recent years driven by favorable policy framework and increasing participation from private companies.

In recent years Turkish Government has promoted a lucrative and efficient investment scenario for private sector companies willing to invest in wind power sector. The promotion policies adopted by the government has facilitated an easy entry of private companies and has ensured positive returns on the investments for companies involved in wind power generation and distribution. The effects of these liberalization and privatization

policies are already evident in terms of rising wind power installed capacity and increasing private sector participation. Driven by all these favorable parameters, the wind power installed capacity in Turkey grew by close to 96% CAGR during 2006 to 2011.

As per the report findings, the wind power sector in Turkey is expected to witness phenomenal growth in coming years. Inclusion of renewable sources into overall energy matrix and government focus on development of wind power industry will fuel the overall installed capacity growth in coming years. The growing wind power sector will also result in the development of domestic manufacturing of wind turbines in Turkey. Till now, wind farms operators in Turkey have to rely on turbines manufactured by foreign companies.
