WHAT: "BUILDING MUNICIPAL WI-FI THROUGH PUBLIC SERVICES IN TUCSON, ARIZONA" LIVE WEBINAR

WHO: Guest Speaker, Francisco Leyva, Project Manager, Transportation Department, City of Tucson

Hosted by Tropos Networks

WHEN: September 10, 2008, 10:00 am Pacific Time

WHY: The City of Tucson, Arizona is using their metro-scale wireless broadband network to save

lives, save money, and improve public safety. By installing video cameras and other medical equipment into their ambulances, patient telemetry data and a real-time video feed provide in-depth, advance information to the hospital in trauma situations, helping save lives. Using the wireless network to manage traffic signals, city officials help traffic flow more smoothly while significantly reducing telecom costs. And, wireless broadband connectivity enables police to access the national crime database and other information from their vehicles, increasing their effectiveness and enabling them to spend more time in the community instead of back at the precinct.

In today's tough economy, how does a large city - Tucson, Arizona is over 190 square miles and 500,000 people - build out and operate a municipal Wi-Fi network? Join us to learn how city officials did just this, and what the results have been so far.

Topics include:

-- Key challenges facing Tucson and why a new generation municipal communication infrastructure was needed

-- How they researched, analyzed, approved, and funded a citywide network infrastructure

-- Why they chose Wi-Fi over RF and cellular technologies

-- How the network was funded

-- Deployment challenges and lessons learned

-- Initial applications deployed on the network and their community value

-- Network expansion - new applications and services; expanded coverage

-- Vision for Tucson: Next steps
