Vicki Butler-Henderson, presenter of Channel Five’s ‘Fifth Gear’ programme will be returning to the Elvington Circuit in York on 9th June to help give SICL’s Event ’09 a touch of glamour as well as demonstrating her driving skills around the high speed race track. Back by popular demand following her triumph at last year’s event, Vicki will be the VIP guest of Yorkshire’s award winning IT network technology and services company, SICL, at their now established annual customer ‘thank you’ event. Using her racing experience and acknowledged driving skills, Vicki will be defending her 2008 title in the Fast Laps event and putting a
range of specialist high performance cars through their paces around Elvington’s challenging circuit.
The Event was conceived by SICL’s MD Cliff Fox and co-Director, Britcar enthusiast Ashley Woodman. “We are delighted that Vicki has agreed to be our VIP guest for the second year running. As well as being our way of thanking our customers we also use the Event at Elvington to help raise the profile of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service, our chosen charity,” commented Cliff. “The work of the YAA was dramatically highlighted by the high profile accident of BBC’s Top Gear presenter, Richard Hammond, during a high speed-stunt at Elvington. Having someone from the world of performance car TV broadcasting take part in the Event is a great way of generating the awareness and support needed to help maintain the service.”
Cliff continued “The fact that we are able to stage the Event again this year, despite the economic situation, is down to our generous sponsors. It is thanks to them that the Event has now become an established date in the calendar and an opportunity to forget the recession for a day in the interests of fun and support for a great charity.”
Once again the Event is being used to help promote the work of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and, subject to emergency duties on the day, one of the YAA teams will be in attendance with their helicopter to demonstrate its capabilities.
Companies helping to sponsor Event ’09 cover an array of major names in the IT industry including Cisco, Dell EqualLogic, Hitachi, LifeSize, Riverbed, RandomStorm, Star, and Zeus. Commenting on behalf of the sponsors Martino Corbelli, Marketing Director at Star, said: “We are proud to be sponsoring such a popular event, which not only thanks customers for their continued support but also benefits a worthy charity. We would like to thank SICL for the opportunity to support their annual customer event for the second year running, helping us to forge and strengthen relationships with customers in such a fun environment. We look forward to welcoming everyone on the day.”
Vicki will be arriving at the Elvington Circuit around 10:00am and as well as taking an active part in the racing she will be providing master-class driving demonstrations throughout the day before awarding prizes during the afternoon closing ceremony, at around 4:00pm. Events include a Fast Laps Competition and opportunities to experience the Elvington circuit in the hands of some of the UK’s top racers as well as some fun activities designed to test the skill and coordination of even the most experienced drivers.
