2012-02-03 15:07:27 - A simply stunning 1958 Tojeiro Jaguar, widely regarded as the best one ever built, is set to show its ‘claws’ at the Race Retro Sale hosted by Silverstone Auctions.

It’s also the first time in many years that this particular model, constructed by the highly regarded engineering legend John Tojeiro, has been available to buy at open market, possibly making it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own one of the ‘prettiest’ 1950’s Sports Racers around.

Adding to its unique appeal is that it was restored by John Tojeiro between 1989 and 1994 and is now presented in its impressive Ecurie Ecosse livery.
It comes to auction complete with full FIA papers and the Jaguar dry-sump D-Type 3.8 litre engine, with wide angle head and triple Weber 45DCOE's producing 300bhp. The gearbox is a D-type lightweight with LSD and triple plate clutch and the rear suspension is De-Dion.

Auctions, said: “John Tojeiro was a very well respected engineer by all his peers and influenced a very important era for British motorsport.

“Therefore, it really goes without saying that this car represents a great chance to own and drive one of the most evocative sports cars of the 1950's. It was a golden era of motoring and a decade when talented engineers and fabricators matched and surpassed the offerings of major manufacturers.

“However, this car also has a generous touch from the modern era because it benefits from some 1990's technology, enabling it to remain competitive in its class.”

This particular Tojeiro Jaguar, just the second one to be built, has also only made a handful of appearances in Europe, most recently at Spa and in the Stirling Moss Trophy race at Portimão in October 2011.

The Race Retro and Classic Car Sale takes place at the Race Retro International Historic Motorsport Show, Europe’s premier historic racing event, which is held from the 24th to 26th February at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire.

Viewing of the lots at Race Retro is all day on the Friday (24th) and until lunchtime on the Saturday (25th), when bidding commences. Also under the hammer will be classic and race cars, motorcycles and automobilia.
