Do it yourself used to be a cost-saving option for those that couldn't afford other options. Not any more. Today, it's an option for those that want to express themselves in a unique fashion, and have fun with their friends and family in the process.

"DIY has taken on new life with the advent of clean energy technology. Folks are having fun and saving money while adapting their cars and houses to be more energy efficient or made to run on clean energy" Says Kathy Beyer-Conrad, Spokesman for the CEC.

"DIY had been restricted to repairs and minor add-ons. Now we see a strong demands in installing solar and

wind options to people's rooftops, or even the outright conversion of an old clunker into an electric vehicle" says Kyle Vanderbe, a technician at the CEC. "One reason for this upsurge has been that many energy saving technologies are only available as DIY kits, at least for a few more years. There are videos on YouTube of teenagers converting bikes and cars to electric vehicles!"

"We are seeing a revolution on two fronts now; the first in adopting clean energy technology, the second being that labor and assembly are carried out by the end-user. The result is extreme cost savings that speed up the process of rolling out clean energy" adds Vanderbe.

"We all want a world that runs on clean energy," says Beyer-Conrad, "with the obvious exception of those profiteering from oil, coal, and other unclean energy methods. Now those with basic handy-man abilities are able to realize huge savings by converting their energy hungry lifestyles with their own hands."
