Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS), a worldwide leader of services to content creators, and SIMtone Corporation, a privately held company delivering the first Universal Computing platform, today announced a partnership to deliver Home-mobility Computing and Entertainment products and services for consumers.
Thomson is undertaking development of solutions that use SIMtone’s Universal Cloud Computing Platform to offer operators and service providers
with a broad range of plug-and-play home-mobility computing, TV and entertainment integrated solutions.
SIMtone’s technology will enable consumers to acquire and/or use content and applications of all types, including personal ones, anywhere inside or outside the home, via any network and with a single user ID. They will access their digital content and services seamlessly from many different appliances already in their possession, such as a desktop or laptop computer, mobile phone, and televisions as well as from new low-cost “third-screen” devices that plug and play in a home WiFi network or an HSPA mobile broadband network, and can be placed anywhere in the home or carried-along.
“Broadband-connected consumers are increasingly demanding flexibility and simplicity to access their digital content and entertainment services from anywhere on-the-fly and on-demand,” explained Vince Pizzica, Head of Strategy & Technology, Thomson. “With SIMtone, we can enable operators and content providers to offer an almost unlimited set of differentiated content services, that are accessible everywhere, both inside and outside the home and from all types of devices.”
“Designed specifically to meet the needs of large-scale carriers and content providers, the SIMtone platform can be utilized to build and deliver all types of convergence solutions such as triple- and quadruple-play services, home networking, mobile and interactive TV, and gaming, as well as other virtualized computing environments,” explained Mario Dal Canto, Chairman and CEO of SIMtone Corporation. “Our partnership with Thomson will further enable operators, service and content providers to deliver consumers with feature-rich multi-screen solutions for the home and for the road.”
SIMtone’s Universal Computing Platform is a plug-and-play, secure and massively scalable intelligent-network computing solution that allows operators and content providers to provision, aggregate and deliver all types of applications and services hosted in any “cloud” to a broad array of existing and new devices, such as “third screen” ones.
