2012-11-27 18:06:04 - The Toronto Rush hosted its first ever professional tryouts this past weekend to
begin the search for elite players to join their team in the American Ultimate
Disc League. Cosmos Sports is a sports marketing firm handling the business operations.
The Toronto Rush will be hosting it’s first ever Combine/Professional Tryout. Open to all men over the age of 18, the Combine will test both the physical and technical skills of each athlete. Attracting the top players from the region, the Rush will begin to build the foundation for their opening day roster. During the combine athletes will undergo a professional fitness evaluation, to give Rush management a more complete analysis of each player. Rush General Manager and Ultimate veteran, Mark Lloyd, will be in charge of selecting the athletes that will advance to the second round of tryouts to be held in early 2013. This process will allow the team to build a roster worthy of the competition that
will be offered in the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL).
Entering its second season, the AUDL is the first Ultimate league of its kind. Branded to give a more professional feel to the sport, the league hopes to build the game through a spectator focused atmosphere. The sport offers fast paced, energetic flow, with continuous highlight reel plays. Similar to other professional sporting markets, the team funding will consist of sales of tickets, merchandise, concessions and sponsorship. All player expenses, including travel, equipment, hotel, and training, will be covered by the team.
Joseph Hall of the Toronto Star recently wrote an article that sheds more light on the team. From the humble beginnings of the Rush to the upcoming Combine, Hall dives into what to expect from the Rush in the coming season. The article can be found here: Toronto Rush takes flight with American Ultimate Disc League.
Responsible for the business operations of the Rush, Cosmos Sports has been very busy in advance of the combine. Locking down the facility, registrations, equipment, volunteers, and logistics has been no easy task, but one that Cosmos thrived in fulfilling. With the first official Toronto Rush Combine just hours away, Cosmos Sports and the Toronto Rush are excited to see what the athletes of Toronto have to offer!
