The Subprime Crisis Research Council (SCRC) will discuss root causes and policy solutions to prevent another wide scale housing crisis in the future before Congressional staff at this Washington DC event. The council comprises a distinguished group of housing experts and economists.

9:30 a.m. Keynote Speech by Jack Guttentag, Professor of Finance Emeritus, the Wharton School

10:00 a.m. Presentation of the White Paper: "Towards Solving the Subprime and Other Financial Crises" by UC Berkeley Professor Robert Edelstein, chair of the SCRC's White Paper Task Force. Edelstein will present the "White Paper" findings, including short- and long-term solutions to the housing crisis.

BACKGROUND:

The SCRC is a bipartisan group of academic, public policy, and professional experts; its purpose is to review, discuss, and make recommendations regarding legislation concerning subprime mortgages, the housing market, and the overall financial sector. The SCRC program is funded by a special grant from the Homer Hoyt Institute, an independent nonprofit research and education foundation, and supplemented by industry. The SCRC is co-chaired by Susan Wachter, professor, Wharton School of Business, and John Weicher, director, Center for Housing and Financial Markets, Hudson Institute. Professor Edelstein is a noted real estate professor at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business and co-chairman of Haas School's Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics.
