“We are excited to announce that we will be participating in “ National Acai Bowl Day” on April 6th 2013. The goal of the day is to draw attention to the health benefits of this incredible little berry,” states Mitch Stein, owner of The Spot Café in Claremont.

“National Acai Bowl Day,” is being organized by Sambazon, importer of organic acai, and anticipates 300 stores to be involved.

Acai (pronounced ah-sigh-EE), is a berry grown on palm trees in the Brazilian Amazon and known as a fruit full of antioxidants. According to the Los Angeles times “acai has gone from Amazonian staple to global wonder-berry: a much-hyped ingredient in smoothies, sorbets, nutrition bars and countless trendy treats from L.A. to London to Tokyo.”

In 2004, it became popular to consume açaí as a supplement due in part to the rapid success of multi-level marketing company MonaVie that sells an açaí blend tonic for $40 a bottle.

Stein continues, “ we blend organic acai berries with other ingredients to provide a delicious and refreshing meal replacement or snack served in a bowl with your choice of toppings. The typical smoothie is on the way out and people are searching for alternatives and we feel that acai bowls are filling their nutritional void.”
