2013-01-22 20:51:10 - The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia Receives a $20,000 Grant from The Home Depot Foundation

ATLANTA, GEORGIA, January, 2013 – Through its seventh annual Building Community Network program, The Home Depot® Foundation has awarded $20,000 to The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia. The donation will be used to support the Museum’s general operations.

“MOCA GA is thrilled to have received this support of both collaboration and funding from The Home Depot Foundation,” said Annette Cone-Skelton, President/CEO/Director of The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia. “This positive recognition and support will assist us as we continue to enhance our core initiatives of supporting, collecting and exhibiting the artists of the state of Georgia. With this additional support, we will continue to help raise the recognition of Atlanta as a center for contemporary art and artists.”

Through

its Building Community Network program, sponsored in partnership with the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, The Home Depot Foundation connects with some of Atlanta’s most effective nonprofit organizations, which are focused on building communities through innovative programs and collaborative partnerships that fall outside of the Foundation’s usual areas of giving. This year, 20 nonprofits participated in roundtable discussions and workshops focused on the theme of ‘Leadership for Sustainability and Lasting Impact’ that addressed the needs nonprofit organizations to explore the role of leadership in organizational long-term health and the importance of growing leaders at every level of an organization. Each organization received a $20,000 grant at the end of the day to support their work on a broad range of issues facing the Atlanta community.

“We feel it is especially important to support local nonprofits that share our goal of creating and maintaining a healthier and more stable Atlanta,” said Kelly Caffarelli, president of The Home Depot Foundation. “By creating a partnership with The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, we believe we have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our hometown.”

About The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) collects and archives significant, contemporary works by the artists of the state of Georgia. MOCA GA is the only institution in Georgia dedicated solely to the collection, preservation, and interpretation of our state’s finest contemporary artists from the 1940s to the present. To place its artists in a broader context, the museum's exhibitions include Georgia artists and artists from around the world. MOCA GA’s programs promote the visual arts by creating a forum for active interchange between artists and the community.

The Museum’s mission is accomplished through its exhibitions, permanent collection, Education/Resource Center, and public educational programs. Notable MOCA GA programs include: MOCA GA’s Education/Resource Center, a public-access archive of Georgia’s contemporary art history; the Working Artist Project, a program which provides an unparalleled level of support for individual artists, expands the Museum’s mission, and promotes Atlanta as a city where artists can live, work, and thrive; an internship program, which gives Atlanta’s college students a hands-on learning experience and educates them on the multi-faceted role of an arts administrator. Café MOCA, a networking program for area high school students that introduces young artists to professional artists and the arts career choices available to them; and the Oral History Project, which collects individual stories that pass the history of the arts on for generations to come.

MOCA GA is located at 75 Bennett Street in the TULA Art Center. On the first Thursday of each month, MOCA GA stays open until 9 p.m. and admission is free all day. MOCA GA is open to the public Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is closed Sunday and Monday.
