Information regarding the infamous fishtail parka coat which was adopted by mods in early 1960's Britain. This iconic piece of clothing still continues to be at the forefront of British and European street fashion after half a century.
How a war coat produced by the U.S. Army as managed to stay at the forefront of British street and now European fashion after 60+ years is quite simply remarkable. The fishtail parka was adopted by early mods and modettes in early 1960's Britain. The mods seen the fishtail parka as perfect attire for protecting their expensive clothes whilst riding around on their Italian scooters. The U.S. Military designed these coats in order to protect their troops against the extreme cold weather conditions during the Korean war. The warm quilted detachable liners inside each parka coat are perfect for the cold bleak British weather conditions. The unique fishtail design on each parka which allows the wearer to seal the coat
around their legs, thus preventing cold weather from entering the body, helped to catapult these parka coats to their iconic status. There was simply not a better coat available to combat cold wintry weather conditions and at the same time, to protect clothing whilst riding around on a scooter, than a fishtail parka. There long length down to the knees, means that they cover a suit in its entirety whilst sat on a scooter.
The current trend sweeping Europe is a fishtail parka with a real fluffy fur hood. The fishtail parka appears to be back for the Autumn / Winter 2012 season bigger than ever. We have seen a massive increase in sales not only throughout the UK, but also throughout Europe. The Scandinavian countries in particular appear to be adopting the fishtail parka which makes perfect sense if you consider their harsh winters.
We have a great range of authentic fishtail parka's available and we have also produced our very own M-1951 fishtail parka replica which has proved a great success. We use the exact same poplin material and proper M51 buttons to help ensure it is better than the competition and the rubbish copies continually seen on the High Street.
Our Who parka is extremely popular and I am pleased to announce that we recently supplied iconic British rock band the Who themselves with our parka for their current Quadrophenia United States tour AW12.
