THE GREAT BRITISH NVQ TRAINING FRAUD

Print article Print article
2009-08-17 15:26:11 - LONDON. The story of a massive NVQ training scheme fraud which duped Filipino, British and other foreign students along with care home operators from British NVQ "college" is revealed

Up to 4,500 students, Filipino, British and other nationalities have been systematically defrauded by the company, Precision Training, led by husband and wife team Salim (Ali) and Nichola Shivji, which was officially a college training British and foreign students to attain National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ's).

Investigations carried out over the past six weeks have uncovered a fraud and deception scandal which has left up to 4,500 students considerably out of pocket, with British care home operators who paid for their staff to be trained to NVQ standards not being immune from this systematic theft. In the case of one company, they paid £52,000 for students to be trained and are among the many out of pocket.

This is along with former staffers,

suppliers of services and interestingly, recruitment agencies in the UK, who Precision used to recruit assessors and internal verifiers. It appears to have been the practice of the Shivji's to employ assessors, then fire them after a few months, naturally withholding pay and expenses. Several of these recruitment agencies are looking for their money, with fees outstanding of tens of thousands of pounds.

This method of getting recruitment agencies to supply staff who were then fired shortly afterwards appears to have been a deliberate policy, and by not paying agencies their fees as well as not paying the assessors, they saved a lot of money.

Newspapers and trade magazines are also added to the list of those who let the Shivji's have credit to the no doubt dismay of their credit controllers.

The duplicitous behavior of the two principals, Nichola and Salim (Ali) Shivji beggars belief. In the words of one former staffer, the only thing they appear to have been good at is marketing. They controlled all aspects of the fraud at Precision, aided by a small coterie of insiders.
