2014-03-03 20:41:54 - Philadelphia-based non-profit organization, the Global Philadelphia Association, launches latest initiative to enhance promotion of its members as regionally and globally valuable entities.
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Global Philadelphia Association has launched its latest initiative, Global Gateways, to enhance promotion of its 130+ members from across the Philadelphia Region, calling attention to their many impacts locally, nationally and abroad. The Global Philadelphia Association members network represents many sectors and industries in Philadelphia, including institutions of education, arts & culture and a varied list of corporate entities.
Global Gateways will build off of the Association’s successes of the previous year, which saw the debut of Philadelphia’s inaugural modern, international exposition GlobalPhilly™ 2013 spanning 47 days. The Association was also instrumental in Philadelphia joining the Organization of World Heritage Cities (www.ovpm.org), making Philadelphia the first city in the United States to become part of this international
body of 200+ cities worldwide.
The Global Gateways initiative is a visibility program unique to Philadelphia. Through Global Gateways, GPA members will be given multiple platforms to personally define why their areas of expertise are valuable assets for Greater Philadelphia- and the world. All GPA members are viewed as figurative “Global Gateways”: professional organizations whose individual missions lead to international exchange between the Philadelphia region and the rest of the globe. Using that insight, Global Gateways seeks to empower Association members in ways previously unexplored.
Implementation of the Global Gateways initiative will be multi-faceted and will include the following:
-A promotional calendar comprised of “World Days”- internationally recognized dates highlighting a specific theme or issue. The calendar will anchor Global Gateways throughout 2014 by members aligning themselves with specific World Days.
-Co-branded events among members and the Association
-Concerted connections and promotions across multiple social media and web platforms
One major Global Gateways event will be the World Forum for Foreign Direct Investment, which for the first time will take place in North America when it comes to Philadelphia June 16 - 18 (www.worldforumforfdi.com). GPA member Team Pennsylvania Foundation is sponsoring the World Forum while the Global Philadelphia Association is a media partner for this multi-day international business gathering. Dozens of countries were represented at last year’s World Forum in Shanghai, with the same outcome expected in 2014. The World Forum has already confirmed speakers Ramabadran Gopalakrishnan, Executive Director of the global company Tata Sons, Mark Zandi, Chief Economist of Moody’s Analytics and other international business personalities.
The Executive Director of the Global Philadelphia Association, Zabeth Teelucksingh, says that Global Gateways “is about a different take on branding for Philadelphia and the international work by GPA members and others. Each of our members is a repository of global expertise, and they want to talk about it. Our role is to highlight these valuable resources by enabling our members’ voices to be heard.”
Leonard Karp, President & CEO of Philadelphia International Medicine adds: “Each member of the Global Philadelphia Association is definitely a ‘Gateway’ between the world and the region. For instance, Philadelphia International Medicine and its hospital network were responsible for almost 6,000 international medical encounters last year representing patients from 50 countries receiving care in Philadelphia. The patients bring home an ‘ambassador’s-eye-view’ of Philadelphia, our people and, of course, our medical professionals.”
Lockheed Martin is supporting Global Gateways as an official sponsor, with more corporate backing expected from across the Philadelphia region.
Social media are already playing a key role in the Global Gateways online presence. Through the hashtag #GlobalGatewaysPHL for use on the photo sharing application Instagram as well as Facebook and Twitter, Global Gateways will be the “brand” for the Association’s member efforts and programs, presented in an increasingly visible, public forum with a push toward multi-generational appeal.
Global Gateways will culminate in an end of the year publication of a “Global Philadelphia Resource Guide” in both hard copy and electronic forms. The guide is set to serve a diversity of purposes and will be based upon the extensive resources already found on the Global Philadelphia Association’s website. However, the guide will expand upon existing content with articles, statistics, and other critical information attractive to regional and international media, businesses, students and visitors.
