2012-10-23 16:08:36 - In collaboration with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens the Alexander S. Onassis Foundation Cultural Center organized its first successful workshop on September 22nd 2012 entitled “The immigration Challenge” in the framework of the Athens Dialogues.
Aiming to promote culture, disseminate Greek civilization abroad and cultivate international collaborations the Alexander S. Onassis Business Foundation is active in many social arenas such as the field of education, culture, environment, the health sector and global solidarity. In this context the Onassis Cultural Center in Athens is introduced in 2000, hosting international conferences, theatre, dance and musical performances and all other kinds of events creating opportunities in the field of arts and culture.
Along with 8 world-class academic institutions from all over the world the Onassis Foundation ( www.onassis.gr/en/) introduces the Athens dialogues in 2010 which started off as an international conference focusing on the Greek culture and its role to the modern world. Due to its great global success
with a significant number of participants and more than 50,000 viewers watching over the internet the program has evolved to an interdisciplinary sequence of events and workshops aiming to examine the relationship between the Greek culture and the modern society. In this context three yearly events have already been scheduled for the academic years 2012, 2013 and 2014.
On September 22nd the first Athens Dialogue Workshop was found to be very successful. Prominent scientists from all over the world gathered at Onassis Cultural Center and discussed through the scope of Social sciences, education, urban landscape and art, the impact of the economic crisis, the rise of unemployment, poverty as well as the new social movements and epidemics in relation to immigration, how they affect the modern society, how to adopt new attitude towards all the new responsibilities we are facing and how to face tomorrow’s challenges.
In this framework more workshops and conferences will follow in order to discover, discuss and solve all major issues the modern society is dealing with at the time, uphold the reviving spirit of the Greek culture and arts, increase global awareness and promote the scheme of international collaborations.
