2008-04-03 19:09:12 - The Bakersfield Condors Professional Hockey Club publicly lent its support to the Bakersfield Scottish Games this past Monday when it invited members of the Kern County Scottish Society to drop the ceremonial first puck at the Condor-Utah Grizzlies game at Rabobank Arena.

The Bakersfield Condors Professional Hockey Club of the ECHL has been an important part of the Bakersfield community since 1940 and continues its strong support of cultural and charitable causes in Kern County to this day.

Another great example of their community support was witnessed on Monday evening, March 31 when they invited representatives from the Bakersfield Scottish Games to

drop the ceremonial first puck before they took to the ice against the Utah Grizzlies at Rabobank Arena.

The invitation helped to publicize the Games, also known as the Bakersfield Gathering and Games, which will be held at Stamler Park this coming Saturday from 9am until 10-ish.

The Bakersfield Scottish Games is organized by the Kern County Scottish Society and has been an annual fixture in Bakersfield for 13 consecutive years. It is all-day cultural event that is thoroughly enjoyed by the entire family. You will find musical entertainment throughout the day and evening, great food, lots of dancing, athletic events and, of course, Scottish clan history and dress.

Where else in Kern County can you see large grown men in kilts heaving telephone pole-sized cabers weighing between 80-100 pounds each?

Musical entertainment includes bagpipe bands, Celtic fusion rock bands and traditional Scottish music bands. Aaron Shaw, the Great Highland Bagpiper and arguably the best bagpiper in the United States, will perform.

Of course, you can learn a great deal about Scottish clan history, lore, and genealogy. The Bakersfield Scottish Games is a great excuse to get out of the house on a Saturday, mix with your community, and let the kids run wild.

In the evening hours, enjoy the best Ceilidh on the West Coast. Ceilidh is a Gaelic term that means 'party'. Enjoy more music, lots more dancing and bangers and beer. The Ceilidh hosted by the Bakersfield Scottish Society is said to be the best Ceilidh on the West Coast.
